Here's another fanciful design concept for you to ponder...

The idea is that the bike can be adjusted to fit a young rider as the rider grows over time.

So the design is structurally deficient... that kinda stuff doesn't matter when you're only making computer renderings...

A Bike for Ye Young Adults

From the deepest streets of the sidewalks of intelligence and smart thinking comes this! A bike for the ages. Literally made for the ages between 10 years and 15 years – for kids who are of bike riding age. It is of common knowledge that it’s a strange time for kids of any of those ages, especially when bike riding comes around to petal. Let’s take a look at this particular solution and keep our butts in the right place.

In those years between the big ten and the teening years, I must say there are enough weird things to worry about for a child. Having a bike that does not fit their bottom well, that’s just too much!

Every bottom is different, and every body is different, even when they’ve got a bike that’s supposed to fit their height. That’s the problem these folks aim to figure. This bike, also called the “Big Eye Cruiser,” is designed to accompany these younglings over the years, fitting them perfectly at every stage of growth.

The frame stretches horizontally, while the angle of the frame determines the height. The handlebar is adapted to this thustly, while fine-tuning is done by moving the saddle backward and forward.

And yet another fanciful design concept;
an electric motorized bike

Advance Carbon Fiber Electric Bike
http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/03/11/advance-carbon-fiber-electric-bike/

Thinking caps on because this takes some imagination to digest. The HMK 561 is a carbon fiber bike with special electrical properties that hold power right inside the frame. Carbon fiber is highly conductive so the designer uses it as a power distribution network instead of wires. The power drives the lights and the motors in between the rims but get this… there’s regenerative braking. All that energy drives a system that turns the wheels using a counter-turning axel in lieu of gears and chains. Far fetched? No, because there’s already a prototype.

Bizarre New Treadmill-Bike Lets Gym Rats See the Outside World

If want to go out for a jog outside but don’t want to get your sneakers dirty, here’s a unique solution for you. Now you can work out to your heart’s content on the new treadmill bike, a treadmill that has been rigged up to a bike–to offer a workout that can only be described as unnecessarily complicated.

Describing the contraption, The Red Ferret Journal writes:

Built with rugged design and all-terrain tires, this 2-wheeled wonder will take you anywhere a standard bicycle will, and give you a great cardiovascular workout with the burn of that walking treadmill you’ve got a love-hate relationship with in the gym.

Gizmag reports that by taking the workout outside, the machine makes sure you are buff and not bored:

The Treadmill Bike is for people who love the feel of a treadmill beneath their feet but don’t want to be stuck inside pounding away when it’s a beautiful day outside. Bicycle Forest [which sells the machine] says the creation has the same fat-burning benefits of a conventional treadmill without the gym membership fees (although you do have to buy the bike).

Treehugger adds the bike is good for people who don’t actually like being outdoors.

“The Treadmill Bike’s hard wearing belt offers a sure grip while protecting your feet from dirt and other contaminants commonly found on the earth’s surface.”

And by “contaminants on the earth’s surface,” they mean dirt and dust and in some cases, depending on where you’re running, horrifying crushed bugs. Treehugger writes the machine sells for $2,500 Canadian, which seems like a lot of money just to fight boredom and to keep your sneakers clean.

Here’s a video of the treadmill bike in action.

It should be named the Ironic Bike.

http://www.gadgetreview.com/2010/03/joby-gorillapod-bike.html

In attempt to garner some press – it’s clearly working – Joby, the folks that make those bendy tripods, replaced part of a bicycle’s frame with their metal ball-and-socket tripod legs. As you can see, they also replaced the handle bars, which it ain’t a half bad idea, that is assuming you could come up with a version that could lock into place.

And this is more of a rickshaw than a bike, but... it's pulled by a robot!

Farmer Wu Yulu, 48, operates his walking robot near his home in a village at the outskirts of Beijing April 14, 2010. Hobby inventor Wu, who started to build robots in 1986, has invented 47 robots that can perform different functions like jumping, painting, drinking, pulling carts, massaging and helping with cooking. He will display more than 30 of his robots during the Shanghai World Expo 2010, where he hopes to promote the practical uses of his robots.

That dual bike is one safe way to ride those big wheel bikes!

I like the robot, put them to good use pulling you along  this will someday be banned having robots do slave type work :P
